Tips for making money online - write original content

I’ve been keeping an eye on Sitepoint’s web site marketplace for the last couple of months and have learned some things from the websites for sale there.
There are tons of sites out there all using the same content, via blog feeds, free article sources like ezinearticles.com, and the super-hype sites that sell you ready-made info products & articles to go with them. Feeds have their place, but using the same content over and over again won’t get you anywhere.
I saw a site for sale just yesterday that claimed to be making thousands of dollars per month. It was about weight loss, of course (don’t make a weight loss site unless you’re going to do an exceptional job and know how to market it because there are a bazillion of them trying to sell high-paying affiliate tie-ins like this)…but the content was from another site, and the seller was very vague as to whether it was ripped-off or used with permission. Buyer beware!
If you want to make money with a website it’s worth taking the time and extra effort to produce original content for your site. It makes a huge difference.
Forget all the article factories, turn-key this or that, and whatever other “instant millionaire” ideas the copywriters are selling on the hype sites.
Writing for the web is easy - it’s casual, it’s brief, and it doesn’t have to be perfect. Quirks are ok, people like personality.
Make money with a website by being original & being yourself.
