How to start paying off debt when you feel overwhelmed.

DEBT MOM WANTS TO KNOW: ARE YOU OVERWHELMED BY YOUR DEBT?

So, you’re in debt.
You might not be sleeping well, knowing that you have too many bills to pay. And well, you got yourself into debt, but how do you even start to get OUT of debt?

Being in debt comes down to MATH…
Maybe your income doesn’t cover your expenses.
Maybe you have a spending problem.
Maybe there was an unexpected emergency.
Maybe you made a few bad finical decisions.
Maybe you helped someone out.

However you got into debt, there’s always a way to become debt free.

But where do you even begin?

FIRST thing I tell my clients is to have a budget spreadsheet.
Seriously it’s a life changing experience.

Seeing your income, expenses and spending all in one place is great. It also takes the guess work out!
Bonus points: the spreadsheet is your friend, and does the math for you!
You’ll see your income, track your expenses, and track your spending and yes even finally have an emergency fund.

That might seem like a lot of information to process. Some people might say, “Well I wrote all by bills down on a piece of paper, so I know what my debt is.”

The spreadsheet is so much more than a debt tracker. Yes it’s a tool that will help you stay financially aware. It’s a tool that will show you where you’re spending your money on and keep you financially organized.
The thing is, you have an income, you have expenses that are monthly, and then there’s additional spending. And when you see your entire month of spending laid out in front of you, it can be truly enlightening.

It’s easy to get into debt quickly. Think about how many times you’ve bought something. paid for an item, had a transaction… where no money exchanged hands. I mean, you bought something, but didn’t open your wallet and touch an actual piece of paper money. Handing over that tangible greenback feels different from swiping a card mindlessly and going on your way, bags in hand.

Learning about finical responsibility isn’t always something our parents teach us. So now you have debt mom here to help you along your way.
